People of the baby boomer generation are reaching age 65 in record numbers. The U. S. Census Bureau estimates that about 20 percent of the U. S. population will be “seniors” (65 or older) within the next 15 years.
As a boomer myself, I don’t relish the prospects of getting older. I prefer to think young, act young, and enjoy life. The harsh reality is that no matter what I think or do, I’m getting older every day. And so is everyone else.
Aging brings with it the prospect for dementia or diminished mental capacity. That in turn poses additional risks to our life savings. It could be the risk of making bad decisions as well as the risk of losing money to scammers, fraudsters and phonies.
The role of the Senior Safe & Sound blog is to educate people about these risks. It’s my hope that increased awareness will lead to better protection for our loved ones and prevention of losses to their hard-earned nest egg. It’s up to us to keep our beloved seniors safe and sound.
